My mother made these when I was young. We had several for holidays.
Here's how I made it.
Start with a 1/2 yard of 4 different fabrics and cut them into 18x2 inch strips
I used a hay wreath. My mother said they used wire wreaths.
They used the hay wreaths for the stick pin fabric wreaths. That's another day and another project.
I didn't take the plastic or the sticker off. I'm lazy.
Work your way around the wreath, tying square knots. I can't tell you how many times right over left, left over right went through my head making this.
The knots are not lined up, they are randomly back and forth. And the hay wreath is exposed a little around the knots. This concerned me at first, but don't worry it will go away soon.
Cut ten 18 inch sections of the ribbon you would like to use for the Big Bow. Tie them evenly spaced around the wreath. This is how the exposed wreath will be covered.
Make a Big Bow. Roll 2 yards of wired ribbon into a 10 inch circle and smash and twist two sides together, then take a previously cut a 14 inch piece and tied it around the twist. Fluff the bow and tie it to the wreath. Fluff the bow again. Do we ever really stop fluffing bows.
Here are two Big Bows tied. Yes I used two bows, my first one just wasn't big enough.
Add three more ribbons for layering. More if you like.
Cut eight to ten 18 inches lengths of each ribbon and tie them evenly spaced around the wreath.
The more you add the more color. Here I used seven different ribbons.
Here's how to hang it.
Cut an 18 inch of 1/2 inch piece of ribbon. Tie a small loop in the middle.
Tie it onto the top of the wreath.
Trim the tails.
All Done!
